dictionary-el software package provides dictionary client for Emacs, you can install in your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) by running the commands given below on the terminal,

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install dictionary-el 

dictionary-el is installed in your system.

Make ensure the dictionary-el package were installed using the commands given below,

$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep dictionary-el *

You will get with dictionary-el package name, version, architecture and description in a table
